Kellner Knights October 10th, 2013 Meeting Minutes

Secretary’s report: Dan M.

  • Minutes were in last newsletter. M/S/C

Treasurer’s report: Maggie

  • Treasurer’s report was read. $7342.59 balance on groomer

Vice President’s report: Justin

  • • Membership dues are now due
  • • 5 renewals came in through our website
  • • Please check out our new website

Trails: Josh/Mike

• Looking at some minor changes
• Grand Rapids board approved us moving trail in Kellner around 76th Street last month and then reversed their decision after some residents came to meeting this month
• Hope to have trail to Sleep Inn this year.
• Still working with Chat-R-Box Cafe, V-Ski’s, and UW Kellner to get trail to their businesses

AWSC (Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs): Lori H. 

• AWSC legislative committee promoting CAP/STEP program to our legislators. It has been assigned a bill number (LRB 2943) club members should call their legislator to ask them support this bill. We want to make sure they know that the snowmobile clubs provide and maintain the trails, not the DNR, and we need to look at alternative funding to continue to do so.
• Registration stickers for residents are $30 for two years, $50 for out of state residents, $250 fine for no stickers. May exempt vintage sleds.
• AWSC Convention is November 1st to 3rd at the Holiday Inn in Stevens Point. Bring a toy for United Way. 60’s and 70’s theme at convention.

Portage County: Dan G. / Mark P

• Marty retired; Ryan Rose is temporarily taking his position
• First half checks should be coming soon
• It takes about 8 man hours per mile of trail for upkeep
• Updating Portage County maps

Wood County: Dan G. / Lori

• Supplemental checks were prorated at 40%
• New Stewardship Fund at the State will require clubs to fund 20% of a project in order to receive the balance (80%) for any project
• New Wood County maps are done
• Amy Sue Vruwink attended meeting and Scott Krug will be at the following meeting

Youth Committee:

• Looking at various activities this upcoming season: Hot dogs at intersection at North T, bon fire, bowling, brat fry, etc.
• On Saturday, October 12th, planning on updating donation boxes. Meet at Moon’s

Old Business:

• Dan Guck is slowly collecting all of the club archives
• Map Kiosks: Dennis contacted Haas Lumber and materials will cost $740.00 for 7 new map sign holders. Haas is willing to donate $200.00 worth of materials. Lori motioned to spend $600 for materials, Bobby Donahue seconded motion, motion carried. We will start project this Saturday, October 12th at Vic Moon’s garage.
• Discussed sending newsletter to landowners.
• Dan G. met with Gary and Larry from Rome about trail to Octane Bar. Octane has all the information of how to get trail to their place
• We are now members of the Chamber. We will provide them with trail maps and get listed on their website
• Commercial sponsorships: Work in progress; we have forms for commercial sponsorships if anyone knows of a business that may be interested please contact a board member for the form.
• Landowners Appreciation Dinner was October 6th at Biron Hall. Had 34 landowners and 30 members in attendance. Discussed how to get more landowners to dinner.

New Business:

• Dan G. is working on a Post Office box for club so all of the club mail goes to one spot
• Radar Run Date: February 1st
• Charity Fun Ride Date: February 2nd
• Club ride will be on the fourth Thursday of the month when trails open
• Donahue’s Open House will be October 25th and 26th. They are working with the local snowmobile clubs to have tables set up to promote membership and also hope to add one new seminar with six topics for new snowmobilers taught by the clubs.
• Grass Drags is on hold
• Decided to sell AWSC club assistance raffle tickets. We keep a dollar for every ticket we sell
• Will look into T shirts with “Join a club” on front and Kellner Knights logo on back
• We will have a float in the Rekindle the Spirit Christmas parade
